Common Programme Framework for Ending Drought Emergencies

The 2010-11 crisis in the Horn of Africa proved to be a turning point in drought management. It generated a commitment from governments
and their partners not just to improve their future response once drought arises but to address the challenge of growing vulnerability. This emphasis on the structural causes of drought emergencies is the principal point of departure from previous drought management efforts in Kenya.

FY 2020 USAID Journey to Self-Reliance Country Roadmap Methodology Guide

The central tenet of the self-reliance theory of change is that country commitment and capacity to plan, finance and manage the development journey are key, mutually reinforcing aspects that largely determine a country’s self-reliance. As a country increases its capacity to manage its own development while maintaining, if not deepening, its commitment to do so, its level of self-reliance will likely also increase.

Evidence to Support the Journey to Self-Reliance

The Bureau for Policy, Planning and Learning (PPL) and the Global Development Lab (Lab) are leading USAID’s Self-Reliance Learning Agenda (SRLA). Both a process and a set of products, the SRLA generates, collects, synthesizes, and disseminates evidence and learning, and facilitates their use to inform USAID’s efforts to support countries on their journeys to self-reliance.

County Stakeholder Onboarding Workshop for Makueni, Kitui and Taita Taveta Counties

In August 2020, the USAID SEK Coordination Mechanism facilitated joint work planning and co-creation processes, as well as cross partner learning as a way of elevating collaboration and reducing duplication among USAID Implementing Partners. To further strengthen the coordination mechanism at the county level, SEK established a county-based coordination structure in each county.
