Building Resilience to Recurrent Crisis

In September 2011, at the Nairobi Summit on the Horn of Africa Crisis, African leaders called for a new approach to addressing recurrent crisis in the region. Based on the widespread recognition that current trends and past experience dictated a new approach, the Joint Declaration from this summit called on development partners to “walk” and ”work” with African leaders to support long-term programs and strategies to build resilience.

Evidence to Support the Journey to Self-Reliance

The Bureau for Policy, Planning and Learning (PPL) and the Global Development Lab (Lab) are leading USAID’s Self-Reliance Learning Agenda (SRLA). Both a process and a set of products, the SRLA generates, collects, synthesizes, and disseminates evidence and learning, and facilitates their use to inform USAID’s efforts to support countries on their journeys to self-reliance.
